While we are putting the final touches on the Messenger 3.0, we thought we should go back to some of the key ideas and events that got us where we are and point towards where we want to go. This week’s Messenger will focus on a few key ideas; next week’s on key events. And then:
Collective Wisdom, Wicked Problems and Wicked Minds
Way back when Socratus wound its way into the universe, we called ourselves the midwives of collective wisdom. Soon after that, we said: only wicked minds solve wicked problem. The first link in today’s newsletter is a graphic illustration of those three concepts: collective wisdom, wicked problems and wicked minds.
Immersion
We have always had a geeky side to Socratus, one that delights in playing with new technologies. Sometimes because the tech is there, and sometimes because the tech helps us see the world differently. Like when we talk about immersion. Normally, we take the world for granted, we never ask: why is it that I’m immersed in it? But with XR technologies, immersion becomes explicit and by immersing ourselves in virtual realities, we can also learn how to question our immersion in ‘real reality.’
Ecosystems
Someone once said: it takes a village to grow a child. True enough. But the story doesn’t end there, for that curious child can ask: what does it take to grow a village?
It takes an ecosystem to grow a village.
If you’re new to this newsletter, you’ve likely not read these three issues. If you’ve been with us for a while, these blasts from the past might jog your memory. Either way, we would love your comments.
Next week is events time.
